BRIGHTWOOD, Ore. -- People are asked to stay out of the Sandy River near Brightwood after a pump station malfunction spilled about 168,000 gallons of sewage near the river.
An electrical problem caused the malfunction of the pumps, according to Ryan Johnson of Clackamas County Water Environment Services. He said the pumps were repaired within two hours.
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality was called in to help manage the spill cleanup.
As a precaution, signs have been placed near the site, Johnson said. The public should avoid contact with river water near the site until the signs are removed.
